Habersham Gardens Intown
garden center opened in March of 1996. Our store was located on a small
corner of the property occupied by the successful and well-established
Habersham Gardens Landscape Company, co-owned by Deborah and Walt Harrison, who
had founded the company back in 1978.
Slowly, the buzz about the quirky little garden center began to build and in
its first year Habersham’s Intown Garden Center won the 1996 Best of
Atlanta award for Best New Nursery. Despite our humble beginnings,
things just keep getting better!
Ten years later, Habersham Gardens award-winning
garden center is a favorite with Atlantans, North Georgians, and even
customers from other states. Although many have been loyal since the beginning,
new customers discover Habersham Gardens every day. Known for its unique
selection of hard-to-find plants, pottery, gifts, and accessories, Habersham
Gardens is also popular for its whimsical charm, thanks in part to the ongoing
displays of original garden artwork from local artists. The ecclectic buildings
have rustic tin roofing and are painted in vibrant calypso colors. Music is
always playing, and it could be anything from Etta James to Moby. As you stroll
through this garden oasis, don’t be surprised if you come upon a friendly
kitty napping among the plants or even the gifts.
The salespeople at Habersham Gardens are friendly, knowledgeable and
helpful. We offer educational
and informative seminars throughout the year, featuring our own staff
horticulturists as well as noted experts such as perennial plant guru Allan
Armitage, or well-known author and gardening show host Erica Glasener. One of
our most popular and well-attended seminars is the
hands-on container garden workshop, taught by Garden Center Manager
Melodie McDanal.
We also host several events throughout the year in cluding
the Spring Open House, the very popular Hydrangea Festival in
June, the Camellia Festival in November, and a Winter Holiday Open
House. Our most anticipated event is the Art in the Garden exhibit
held every spring and fall.
In the spring of 2003, Deborah and Walt Harrison sold Habersham
Gardens Inc., to three of their employees whom they had personally selected.
With new owners Mike Sutherland, Jerry Bell, and Steve Cafiero at the reins,
Habersham Gardens has seen steady growth. Even with phenominal growth, we have
not not lost sight of our original vision - to provide customers with superior
plant and garden products, knowledgeable and friendly customer service, and a
place to get excited about gardening!
